Softball: Academy of Our Lady, St. Charles Catholic win streaks continue

Area Prep Softball Report for Sunday, March 20

Make it seven straight wins for Academy of Our Lady.

The Penguins won twice in impressive fashion Saturday, downing Archbishop Chapelle 12-0 in five innings and Denham Springs 9-4.

In the win over the Chipmunks, Academy of Our Lady scored twice in the top of the second inning, added a run in the third and put the game away with five runs in the fourth. AOL finished it with four runs in the fifth inning.

Grace Toladano pitched a complete game, allowing four hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Alexis Davis led the offensive charge with two hits and three RBI, Caylin Kline had two hits and an RBI and Caterra Bates and Kylie Duplan each contributed a hit and an RBI as part of an 11-hit attack.

In the win over the Yellow Jackets, AOL scored a run in the top of the first before Denham Springs scored twice in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.

The Penguins took over, scoring four runs in the third, three in the fourth and a run in the top of the fifth inning. Denham Springs got its other two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Ryanna Lanier led the offense with two hits and four RBI while Bates had a hit and two RBI and Gracie Toladano had three hits and an RBI for AOL. Kline added a hit and an RBI while Davis had two hits for the Penguins. Toladano picked up the win, going the distance. Toladano allowed just one earned run on two hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

AOL (13-6) will host Belle Chasse Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in District 10-4A action.

St. Charles Catholic won its fifth straight game, edging St. James 6-5 in LaPlace.

The Lady Comets won it in in dramatic fashion.

Mia Ganote delivered her fourth hit of the day, a walk-off RBI single, to deliver the game-winning run. Hannah Brady added three hits for S. Charles Catholic.

Kamryn Cancienne went the distance, striking out eight to pick up the win.

St. Charles Catholic (15-3) will next travel to Live Oak Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. while the Lady Wildcats (10-5) will host Berwick Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in a District 9-3A contest.
