Soccer: Willow School, Newman, STA among winners Thursday

In a matchup of excellent programs Thursday, The Willow School edged East Jefferson 1-0 at Brees Family Field.
The lone goal came in the first half on a goal by senior Max Moorman on an assist from senior Sebastian Salm.
The Lions (15-0-3) return to action Saturday, hosting Holy Cross at 11 a.m. in another big matchup.
The Warriors (5-6-3) will play at Archbishop Rummel next Tuesday
Newman blanked Pope John Paul II 6-0 at Lupin Field for its third straight win.
George Villere led the way with a hat trick while Rowan Dravid, Jake Isenberg and Amar Walia each added a goal.
Newman (9-3-2) will host Ben Franklin Saturday at 1 p.m.

In girls action, St. Thomas Aquinas completed the sweep with a 2-1 win over Northlake Christian.
Julia Bouffard and Sophie LaCroix each scored a goal for STA.
The Falcons (8-5) will entertain Pope John Paul II today at 5 p.m.
The Wolverines (6-4-2) will host Pope John Paul II next Tuesday.
