ORLANDO, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University spirit squads both won national titles, this past weekend at the 2024 UCA and UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships at the Walt Disney World Resort.

The gold medal marks the third time in four years that SLU Cheer has taken home the championship in the UCA Open Coed Game Day competition, earning a finals score of 97.1667 points. SLU Cheer previously claimed national titles in 2021’s virtual competition, as well as last January at the 2023 Nationals event.

Southeastern’s dance squad, the Lionettes, won gold in the UDA Division I Game Day competition with a finals score of 94.1, besting runners-up Omaha (92.9667) and Hofstra (92.7883). The Lionettes, who also finished ninth in the Division I Jazz competition, turned in the top score in both the Game Day finals and semi-finals.

The university’s athletic spirit groups have combined for a total of six national championship golds in the past seven years, as the Lionettes dance team also won titles in the Division I Hip Hop category in both 2018 and 2021.
