NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana’s Joseph Semien was announced Tuesday as Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week in baseball for Feb. 6-12. He is the first Gold Rush weekly winner this season.

Semien — a sophomore left-hander from Lake Charles, La., and a graduate of Barbe High School — was 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in two games, both starts. He pitched all seven innings and struck out 10 in a 1-0 victory against city rival Dillard in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday and allowed two singles and a walk.

Semien’s totals for the week included 11 innings, four hits, two runs, two earned runs, three walks and 16 strikeouts.

XULA (5-1) will open its RRAC schedule and conclude a nine-game homestand with a series at Wesley Barrow Stadium against Louisiana Christian: a nine-inning game at 5 p.m. Friday, then a doubleheader — a seven-inning game, then a nine-inning game — at noon Saturday. Tickets are available online only at xulatix.universitytickets.com.
