It has been quite a ride for Marcus Scott.

From serving as the head coach at West Jefferson and John Ehret to his current position as head coach at Destrehan, Scott has won wherever he has served.

Scott won big a year ago, with Destrehan capturing the Non-Select Division I state championship, an outstanding milestone.

Now, Scott has achieved another milestone, capturing the 100th victory in his illustrious career as Destrehan routed Central Lafourche 51-0 Friday night.

Jackson Fields continued his outstanding play, improving weekly at quarterback for Destrehan. Fields completed 11-of-15 passes for 203 yards and four touchdowns.

Shane Lee rushed five times for 88 yards and a touchdown and Jabari Mack had three catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a 45-yard touchdown to pace Destrehan and the defense did the rest.

Scott, who also served as an assistant coach at Nicholls State, was a guest on The Three Tailgaters Show on NASH ICON 106.1 FM Saturday morning.

“I appreciate the coaches that I’ve been blessed to work with and the head coaches I have worked with and learned from as an assistant coach,” Scott said. “I am just very thankful. Of course, you cannot do it without a bunch of good players, which we’ve had, and they were real good kids.”

The wins have kind of run together for Scott.

“I do not remember the first win at West Jefferson but I have four guys with me here at Destrehan that were on that West Jefferson staff,” Scott said.

With the sustained excellence Scott has achieved, it is easy to see him reaching more milestones in the future.

“It’s hard to believe those who have won 200, 300 or more wins,” Scott said. “Those guys are amazing, legendary.”

It was the second straight shutout for the Wildcats, who have allowed just 32 points in six wins.

“With our program, we are going to play defense,” Scott said. “That is our staple, what we establish. Our staff does a great job. Our offense is coming along. Jackson is getting better every week and our team is getting better every week. We were under five penalties in the game and that is our goal every week.”

Both teams return to district play next Friday night. Destrehan (6-0, 3-0) will host Terrebonne next Thursday while the Trojans (0-6, 0-2) faces another tough challenge, hosting unbeaten East St. John.

“Terrebonne is a talented team and we will have to play well,” Scott said. “We play on Thursday night and that is rare. We are focused on winning one game.”

That would be No. 101 and one gets the feeling that there are many, many more to come for Scott.

“Today, I am enjoying it a little bit,” Scott said.
