Who is the best college football team in Louisiana this season?

Any other year the answer to that question would be obvious: LSU. This season, you could make a case for Tulane based on its record, defense and recent success.

My only regret is that LSU will not play Tulane this season.

I have another regret – my picks, which have misfired recently.

I’ll try to do better with these “Sports Takes Sure To Be Wrong (Although We Know The Majority Of These Will Be Right)” with the Saturday Seven.

Florida 38, No. 19 LSU 31: Upset Special. There is some doubt about the playing status of LSU QB Jayden Daniels. The key to this game will be how the Tigers came out after their disappointing loss to Alabama last week. If LSU comes out strong, Florida has no chance. I think the Tigers will come out sluggish, fueling a Florida upset.

No. 23 Tulane 27, Tulsa 13: Tulsa has no chance.

No. 10 Penn State 20, No. 3 Michigan 17: Upset Special. Let’s be truthful: Penn State lacks the athletes to compete with Michigan and Ohio State. But consider this: There is a lot of pressure on Michigan with the sign-stealing scandal and Penn State also is playing at home. This is an upset worth taking a flyer on.

No. 5 Washington 30, No. 18 Utah 23: I don’t think Utah has the offense to hang with Washington, especially in Seattle.

No. 14 Missouri 34, Tennessee 31: This is another upset selection. I was impressed with Missouri in its loss at Georgia last week. I think that game is going to carry over to this week.

Rutgers 26, No. 22 Iowa 24: Despite being in first place in the Big Ten West, the Hawkeyes are not as good as their record suggests and have their traditional offensive struggles. Rutgers will need a good start, but it can win this game.

No. 2 Georgia 28, No. 9 Ole Miss 24: If this game were being played in Oxford I would be tempted to pick an upset. Georgia is too talented to lose to Ole Miss at home.
