Sam Murphy of LA Tech named C-USA Golfer of the Week

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech senior golfer Sam Murphy was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office on Thursday.

Murphy won his first individual intercollegiate tournament after finishing the LaTour Intercollegiate with a combined -7 (69-68=137) and carded 10 birdies during the two-day event. He had a solid final round as the senior shot either at or under par on 17 of the 18 holes for a -4 (68). Murphy helped Louisiana Tech finish the LaTour Intercollegiate 18 strokes ahead of second place Jacksonville State as LA Tech registered a combined -12 (288-276=564). He led Louisiana Tech to a -12 (276) second round performance which tied for the lowest team round score in program history.

Murphy is the first Bulldog to earn C-USA honors this season.

Louisiana Tech now turns its attention to the LSU Invitational at the University Club in Baton Rouge from Feb. 26-28.
