Saints sweep doubleheader against Gold Rush

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana lost 14-1 and 10-2 Saturday to Our Lady of the Lake in a Red River Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader.

The Saints (26-18 overall, 17-9 RRAC) swept the three-game series against the Gold Rush (16-22, 7-20). OLLU won 17-3 Friday.

OLLU scored nine runs in the sixth inning of the first game and seven runs in the fourth inning of the second game.

Deionte Norris had two hits, and Damian Lantigua drove in the only XULA run in the opener. In the other game XULA led 2-0 in the first when Saul Gonzalez scored on an infield error, then Jeremy Moore singled home Norris. Lantigua had two hits..

OLLU’s Caimyn Holiday went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in the opener, and Diego Zuniga, Christian Martinez and Jimmy Valle had two RBIs apiece in the other game.

Though XULA was swept, the Gold Rush enter the final week of the regular season still holding a shot at landing the No. 8 seed for the eight-team RRAC Tournament May 5-8 at Sterlington, La. Jarvis Christian and Huston-Tillotson share eighth place with 9-18 league records, two games better than XULA. Jarvis Christian will play host to XULA next week in a three-game series, and Huston-Tillotson will travel to first-place LSU-Shreveport.
