XULA drops softball doubleheader at Houston-Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana lost 9-0 and 9-1 Saturday to Houston-Victoria in a Red River Athletic Conference softball doubleheader.

Both games were halted early because of the eight-run rule.

The Jaguars scored eight runs in the third inning of the first game and seven runs in the fifth inning of the second game.

Madison Winston and Chenai Keyes had two hits apiece for XULA in the opener. In the other game Shay Angelle and Alexis Richardson had two hits apiece, and Melane Jimmie drove in the XULA run.

The Jaguars limited the Gold Nuggets to 10 hits, all singles, in the doubleheader. Houston-Victoria produced eight extra-base hits, including four doubles in the third inning of the opener. Claire Blinka hit a three-run double in that inning.

XULA is 15-26 overall and 7-17 in the RRAC. The Jaguars are 20-15 and 14-8.

The Gold Nuggets are scheduled to play two RRAC makeup doubleheaders next week: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jarvis Christian in Hawkins, Texas, and 1 p.m. next Saturday at Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans against Texas College.
