Doug Marrone

Veteran NFL coach Doug Marrone who served as offensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints the previous two seasons will not be retained in 2024, based on numerous reports.

Marrone was the first assistant Dennis Allen hired in 2022. The 59-year old was the offensive coordinator for Sean Payton’s first staff in New Orleans back in 2006. He went on to hold head coaching jobs with Syracuse, the Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak is expected to arrive as the new Saints offensive coordinator following the Super Bowl. He will help look to fill staff openings at offensive line coach, wide receivers coach and running backs coach.

One name to keep an eye on for the o-line job is someone who is very familiar to this area, James Cregg. Currently the 50-year old Cregg is an assistant offensive line coach for San Francisco where has worked for two seasons. He has additional NFL coaching experience having served as assistant offensive line coach with the Raiders (2007-’08), Broncos (2014-’16) and Chargers (2017).

Most local fans remember Cregg as LSU’s offensive line coach from 2018-2020 which included a National Championship campaign in 2019. His offensive line won the Joe Moore Award, presented to the best offensive line in college football.
