CCS Prep Summer League

In the first year of the Crescent City Sports Prep Summer League, the John Curtis Christian-based River Ridge Patriots reached the championship game.

In year two of the league, the Patriots are making a strong push to return to the four-team playoffs.

River Ridge won its fourth straight game, defeating Archbishop Shaw-based Refuel 4-1 at Winterscheidt Field on Wednesday evening.

The story was Bryce Hebert, who carried a perfect game into the sixth inning. The perfect game ended on an infield hit by Cam Bolden, who was then caught stealing, so Hebert faced 17 batters, all of whom were retired before departing after 5 2/3 innings.

The Patriots scored a run in the top of the first on a walk to Dylan Gilbert, who advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a single by Brad Chaisson to make it 1-0.

The lead grew to 2-0 in the second inning when Isaiah Spann doubled, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a groundout by Xavier Brown.

River Ridge extended the edge to 3-0 in the sixth inning on a walk to Nate Alario, a groundout and an RBI triple by Tyler Mitchell.

Refuel scored its run in the bottom of the sixth on a double steal and it was 3-1 but the Patriots got an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a double by Spann, an error and an RBI single by Brown.

Hebert allowed just one hit and struck out six to get the win. Trey Davis pitched the final 1.1 innings.

Nathan Billiot took the loss for Refuel, going 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Robert Hebert III pitched the final 1.1 innings.

Both teams are back in action next Monday.

River Ridge (6-2-1) will next play at Mandeville while Refuel (2-8) travels to face Holy Cross-based Ponstein’s Food Store.

Mandeville-based Gulf Coast Bank & Trust defeated Lakeshore 7-2 at Mandeville.

Each team scored a run in the first inning and in the third inning and it was 2-2.

The Skippers broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth on a bases loaded walk to L. LeJeune, which proved to be the winning run. Gulf Coast Bank & Trust broke it open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Wes Carr had two hits, two RBI, and scored twice for Gulf Coast Bank & Trust. Kyle Charrier and Peyton Lirette each added a hit and an RBI.

Logan McNamara picked up the win, pitching three hitless, shutout innings in relief of Michael Scott. McNamara walked two and struck out three. Ashton Calegan pitched the final inning.

Logan Lomanaco homered for Lakeshore while Ethan Griffin had a hit and an RBI.

Gulf Coast Bank & Trust (5-3) plays at Northshore-based Peck’s Seafood while Lakeshore (4-5-1) hosts St. Augustine-based Chapter IV Restaurant.

Pope John Paul II (0-5-2) and St. Thomas Aquinas (2-4-2) played to a 3-3 tie at Hammond.

The Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning before the Jaguars scored a run in the top of the second, another in the fourth and one in the seventh inning to tie it and the game ended after seven innings by agreement.
