Retif Oil wins opener in American Legion State Tournament

Abbeville's Comeaux Park

Jesuit-based Retif Oil got off to a good start Saturday in the American Legion State Tournament at Comeaux Park in Abbeville, edging the Lafayette Braves, 2-1.

Marshal Serio drove in a run in the fourth inning ,and the Oilers scored the winning run in walk-off fashion. Brandon Thomas singled, advanced to second and scored on a throwing error.

Everett Denny pitched six innings, allowing an unearned run on just four hits. Denny walked one and struck out eight. Maes Martin pitched the seventh inning to pick up the win, retiring the side in order with two strikeouts.

Retif Oil meets the Lafayette Drillers today at 4 p.m.
