Mike Denbrock

Yahoo Sports reports that Cincinnati Bearcats offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock is expected take the same position on Brian Kelly’s staff in Baton Rouge.

LSU is also expected to add former Louisiana Tech offensive coordinator Joe Sloan to coach quarterbacks.

This season, Denbrock helped Cincinnati become the first Group of 5 school to reach the College Football Playoff. The Bearcats averaged 38.8 points and 429 yards per game in going 13-0 before their CFP semifinal loss to Alabama.

The soon-to-be 58-year old served on Kelly’s staff at Notre Dame from 2010 to 2016 in numerous roles including offensive coordinator and assistant head coach. While in South Bend, he tutored future NFL tight ends Kyle Rudolph and Tyler Eifert. Denbrock, a former college tight end, also worked at his alma mater Grand Valley State under Kelly, coaching on both sides of the ball.

Denbrock has maintained a blue collar approach wherever he has coached. His experience tutoring tight ends and offensive linemen gives him significant experience and appreciation of the importance of establishing a strong run game. He preaches a physical attack while maintaining a mindset that seeks out explosive plays. Denbrock has strong beliefs in core values, a strong locker room and total commitment.

In an interview with John Brice of Football Scoop in 2020, Denbrock shared his motto R.E.D. which stands “Relentless, Explosive and Disciplined.”

The 35-year old has spent Sloane the past nine seasons at Louisiana Tech including the most recent two as offensive coordinator. He was also the primary recruiter during his tenure in Ruston.

Sloan played at East Carolina, joining the Pirates as a walk-on before earning a scholarship. He was given their Rudy Award for the player who best demonstrates character, courage, contribution and commitment. Sloane graduated with Summa Cum Laude recognition.
