CHALMETTE – It was a very good night for Lutcher on the field.

It was a very good night for St. Bernard Parish on the field before the game and during the game.

Freshman Marshall Louque was brilliant on the mound and at the plate as Lutcher shut out Chalmette 6-at Noel Suarez Stadium Thursday night in a game seen live on CrescentCitySports.com.

Louque pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Louque walked three and struck out seven to improve to 3-0 on the season.

At the plate, Louque was 3 for 3 with a double, two singles, two RBI and two runs scored and he was hit by a pitch.

Cohen Veron had two hits and drove in two runs while Kai Brown had two hits and scored a pair of runs. Jaryn Darr added two hits and scored twice.

The Bulldogs did all of their damage early, scoring a run in the first, three runs in the second and two in the third inning.

Louque opened the game with a double down the left field line and advanced on a wild pitch. He scored on an error to make it 1-0.

The Bulldogs increased the lead to 4-0 in the second inning on a single by Brown before Darr was hit by a pitch. Logan Weber laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached safely on an error with a run scoring. Louque and Veron each singled home a run as well.

In the third inning, Lutcher knocked out Chalmette starter Bryce Wilson as Brown doubled, Darr singled and Louque singled home a run. Veron added an RBI single.

The Owls got two runners on in the bottom of the fourth inning on singles by Evan Jacob and Cole Armstrong. Dylan Bryan than laced a liner down the left field run and Weber made a terrific diving catch toward the line to rob Bryan and saved two runs.

Sophomore Quinn Smith pitched the final inning for Lutcher and struck out the side to end it.

Cannon Lion pitched very well in relief for Chalmette, going four and two-third innings, allowing no runs on three hits.

Lutcher (20-8) is currently third in the Class 3A power rankings and is likely to stay there. The Bulldogs will play Newman Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Chalmette (19-7) will host West Jefferson Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in a District 8-5A contest. With the loss, the Owls are most likely to be a road team in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

The game served as a fundraising opportunity for tornado relief to aid victims of the recent tornado in Arabi.

Ronnie Lamarque, an Arabi native and Chalmette High graduate, was on hand to present checks amounting to $250,000 to the cause to St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis. Louie Roussel also contributed a check to those presented by Lamarque.

Many contributed during the broadcast and can still do so through the St. Bernard government website at www.sbpg.net.
