MARRERO – Pitch and catch. They are the basics of baseball that most frequently get you home a winner.

That was the case Tuesday night at Winterscheidt Stadium.

Four pitchers combined to allow just four hits while striking out 10 as Brother Martin-based K’s for Kids downed Archbishop Shaw-based Refuel 5-2 in CCSL League play in a game aired live at Crescent City Sports.

Gavin Simeon started for K’s For Kids and went two innings, allowing a run on three hits with two strikeouts to get the win.

Cole Navarro followed and was very impressive, pitching two perfect innings with four strikeouts. Frank Randol went one inning, allowing one run on one hit before Ryan Darrah went two innings, allowing no hits, hitting a batter and striking out four to get the save.

Each team plated a run in the first inning.

K’s for Kids (2-1-1, 8-11-1 overall) scored on a walk to Randol, a single by Kolby Hunter and an error, one of four committed by Refuel.

The Shaw-based squad responded with a run in the bottom of the frame on a double by Jack Mahler, a singe by Jayce LaCava and an RBI groundout by Julyan Clarks to tie the game.

K’s For Kids took the lead for good in the top of the second inning on a single by Jack Lupo, a wild pitch and an error to make it 2-1.

The lead grew to 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning on a walk to Stan Wiltz, a pair of wild pitches and an error.

Refuel (3-6) fought back with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a walk to Jacob Periera, a stolen base and an RBI single by Dalton Davidson to make it 3-2.

K’s For Kids got a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning on singles by Lupo and Wiltz, an RB double by Egan Prather and a wild pitch, scoring the second run to account for the final margin.

Hunter and Lupo each had a pair of hits to lead K’s For Kids.

Nathan Billiot started and took the loss for Refuel, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in four innings, walking one and striking out one. Dalton Davidson followed with two and a third innings, allowing three runs (one earned) with two walks and a strikeout. Pereira went the final two-thirds of an inning.
