PONCHATOULA – Brother Martin scored on its first five possessions en route to an easy 45-17 victory over Ponchatoula Friday night at “The Swamp.”

The game was seen live on Cox Sports Television and CrescentCitySports.com.

The two-headed running attack of Chris Smith and Jaylon Spears each rushed for two touchdowns, while Garrett Mmahat passed for a pair of touchdowns to lead the Crusaders (3-0).

Brother Martin forced a turnover on the game’s first possession and scored five plays later on a 5-yard run by Smith. The Crusaders quickly added another touchdown on a pass from Mmahat to John Louis to make it 14-0 after one quarter.

Ponchatoula (1-2) kicked a field goal in the first minute of the second quarter – the first points allowed all season by the Brother Martin defense, which had shut out Byrd and Carver in its first two games.

Brother Martin led 31-10 at halftime and after a pair of early touchdowns in the third quarter, Crusader coach Mark Bonis substituted liberally in the final quarter.

Both teams open district play next Friday night. Brother Martin meets Jesuit at Tad Gormley while Ponchatoula plays host to Covington.
