Redbirds rally to down ‘Cakes, 10-6

Memphis – The Memphis Redbirds rallied with five runs in the seventh inning and added a pair in the eighth to come from behind and defeat the New Orleans Baby Cakes, 10-6, on Sunday afternoon.

The day started well for New Orleans as the ‘Cakes opened the scoring with back-to-back home runs in the first inning.
Jon Berti and Lewis Brinson each hit solo shots to left field.

New Orleans added a run in the third. Peter O’Brien drilled a two run home run in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-0.

Memphis scored a pair off of starter Cody Poteet in the fifth inning. The Memphis offense was just getting started as the Redbirds scored a run in the sixth inning, five in the seventh and two in the eighth to cap the comeback.

Randy Arozarena hit a two-run home run for Memphis. Joe Hudson drove in a pair of runs with a triple and former LSU standout Kramer Robertson had three hits and two RBI.

Chris Ellis earned the win and Parker Bugg allowed seven runs in two runs for the loss. The series is even at one and resumes Monday night.

The ‘Cakes are 45-28 on the season, leaving them 5 ½ games back of first place San Antonio. New Orleans host San Antonio on Thursday at 7 p.m.
