Gavin Holmes #22

The 2019 state football champion Rummel Raiders boasted one of the best secondaries in this section of the country, with all four starting defensive backs already committed or heavily recruited by Division I schools.

Safety Quinton Cage is mulling over an assortment of offers just one week away from national signing day on Feb. 5 while the versatile Donovan Kaufman remains committed to Vanderbilt, although he has gained additional Power 5 suitors. Corey Smooth, a Rummel cornerback, has already pledged to Nicholls State.

Another cornerback, Gavin Holmes, has decided his fate with his solid commitment to Wake Forest. He had pledged to Colorado June 12 but backed off Oct. 10. He visited Wake Forest this past weekend.

The 5-foot-11, 163 pound Holmes runs a 4.52 forty with a 37″ vertical. He becomes the 18th member for the Demon Deacons for their 2020 signing class. Holmes also made visits to Arkansas State, UTSA and Washington State. UTSA, Wake Forest, Colorado, Washington State, Old Dominion, SLU, Nicholls, Northwestern State, ULM and Washington State were all in the sweepstakes for Holmes.

A lot of credit for his commitment to Wake Forest goes to defensive coordinator/safeties coach Lyle Hemphill.

His speed is a factor in coverage as he mirrors receivers in routes. Holmes is explosive out of his cuts with good closing speed.
