A quarterback prospect decided against the LSU Tigers on Monday. You maybe wondering who it even is.

I mentioned on CCS recently that former Philadelphia Phillies farmhand Cord Sandberg decided to end his six-year baseball career after signing for a $775,000 bonus as the 93rd overall MLB draft pick out of high school in 2013.

Sandberg originally inked with Mississippi State out of Manatee High in Bradenton, Fla. as the nation’s eight rated dual threat QB. Sandberg threw for 79 touchdowns and only eight interceptions during his prep career.

The 6-foot-3, 215 pound lefty decided to accept an offer from Auburn over finalists LSU and North Carolina State. He visited all three campuses before choosing to play on the Plains. Sandberg will have four years of eligibility. However, he can opt for a chance at the NFL at any time.

Immediate playing time is not likely for the 23-year old Sandberg at Auburn, where starter Jarrett Stidham is firmly entrenched but expected to leave for NFL following upcoming this season. Three other scholarship quarterbacks are on the roster for the Tigers.

Sandberg accepted a full scholarship to Auburn, but was offered a preferred walk-on status by some schools. Had he accepted that option, the Phillies organization would have paid the tab for college.

His father Chuck Sandberg played baseball at Florida before being selected by Boston Red Sox in ninth round of 1979 MLB draft. As a first baseman, Chuck played four seasons in the minors but never any higher than Double-A. His son as an outfielder followed a similar path.

McNeese added their third commitment for the ’19 class when Washington-Marion’s Christian Guillory deciding in favor of the Cowboys over offers from Texas Southern, Tulane, Northwestern State, Houston Baptist and UTSA. He is expected to line up at outsie linebacker of strong safety in a rover type of role in college.

Guillory (5-11, 200) flies around the field and delivers bone jarring hits. He anticipates play and has success as a blitzer. Guillory eludes blockers and breaks down prior to tackles.
