Wardell Mack

John Ehret cornerback Wardell Mack committed Monday to the Florida Gators.

The 2024 prospect had offers from finalists LSU, Florida State, Texas and other Power 5 programs. Mack is the No. 115 overall player in the nation in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Mack took three official visits in June to Florida State, Florida and Texas.

A pair of Louisiana natives pulled Mack to Gainesville. Secondary coach Corey Raymond, a former LSU cornerback and assistant coach, along with Jabbar Juluke have handled the bulk of the recruiting duties for UF head coach Billy Napier. Brian Kelly assigned Matt House and Kerry Cooks to the case for the Tigers.

The 6-foot, 170 pounder runs a 4.58 and has posted a 38″ vertical. He played wide receiver, quarterback and corner for the Patriots last season.

Mack is the 22nd pledge to Florida’s current class.

If Mack does in fact sign with the Gators, it will mark the fifth consecutive year that the top ranked prospect in the New Orleans area has signed with an out of state school. Newman’s Arch Manning (Texas) in 2023, Ponchatoula safety Jacoby Matthews (Texas A&M) in ’22, Ehret’s Kaine Williams (Alabama) in 2021 and Sedrick Van Pran (Georgia) in 2020 were the others.
