Recruiting: Ex-Mississippi State forward Derek Fountain latest LSU hoops transfer

Brick by brick, recently hired LSU basketball coach Matt McMahon continues to construct his roster for the 2022-’23 campaign.

Derek Fountain signed Thursday as a transfer to the program after having played a pair of seasons at Mississippi State.

The 6-foot-9, 220-pound played 44 games with 13 starts for the Bulldogs. Fountain averaged 3.4 points and 2.3 rebounds.

His better season was his freshman year when he averaged 5.4 points and 3.0 rebounds, connecting on 48.2% from floor. His best outing came against LSU when he poured in 20 points including 4-of-7 from behind the arc.

Fountain was twice named All-State at Holly Springs High School in Mississippi and was tabbed among the top three prospects in the Magnolia state in the 2020 class.
