NEW ORLEANS, La. – A shorthanded New Orleans men’s basketball squad (6-16, SLC 3-8) fought hard against UIW but could not overcome a second half deficit in a 78-70 loss that saw seven ties and eight lead changes Saturday evening at Lakefront Arena.

UNO outrebound the Cardinals by five in the first hald while picking up nine offensive boards and three steals. New Orleans led through the first 10 minutes, 21-19, with two threes from Daniel Sackey. UIW answered with a 14-9 run to tie the Privateers at 30.

Down one with four seconds left on the board in the half, Tyson Jackson fought for an offensive rebound and made a layup to beat the halftime buzzer and secure the one-point UNO lead, 39-38.

The Privateers struggle from the floor to start the second half, going 4-of-15 from the field to trail the Cardinals by as many as 15. UNO drew with four with 40 seconds left before UIW put away the win at the foul line.

Jackson led New Orleans with 16 points, and the Privateers outscored the Cardinals in the paint, 36-26.
