Xavier hoops teams sweep Huston-Tiliotson at Convocation Center

Men’s Basketball
Sophomore guard Jathen Ross made a school-record nine 3-pointers Saturday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 91-61 Red River Athletic Conference men’s basketball victory against Huston-Tillotson at XULA’s Convocation Center. Ross, who entered with a 2.8 scoring average in 15 games this season, finished with a career-high 29 points, 20 in the second half. TJ Jones scored 17 points for the Gold Rush (15-7 overall, 10-5 RRAC), and Lance Williams scored 11. Braxton Lovings scored 24 points, including 5-of-8 3-pointers, for the Rams (7-14, 5-10).

Women’s Basketball
The scoring pattern continued for Xavier University of Louisiana women’s basketball in a 66-50 Red River Athletic Conference victory against Huston-Tillotson at XULA’s Convocation Center. The Gold Nuggets are 6-5 in their last 11 games – in each victory they allowed 54-or-fewer points, and in each loss they allowed 70 or more. Nia Bishop scored 13 points, Ja’Kiylah Esco 12 and Shylia McGee 10 for XULA (14-9 overall, 8-7 RRAC). Ilana Sanford scored 11 points for the Lady Rams (9-10, 8-7). XULA never trailed for the second consecutive game.
