BATON ROUGE – Despite being outrushed 307-58, homestanding Parkview Baptist found a way Friday night.

The defining moment happened on fourth down with just 10 seconds to play.

Trailing 21-14, Parkview quarterback Abram Johnston connected with Jack Harrington for a score on the 18th play of the drive to pull the Eagles to within a point of a tie.

The tie was not on their minds. On the ensuing two-point play, Harrington grabbed a pass for an encore to put PBS up 22-21 with just a single second on the clock.

Following a touchback, Madison Prep hoped for a miracle on the final play but Madison Prep quarterback Tylan Johnston was hit and fumbled. Caleb Ordogre scooped up the loose ball and returned it to paydirt to provide the final margin of 28-21.

“16 (Jack Harrington) did a great of working the back endzone on the scramble drill and was able to make a big play,” said Parkview Baptist head coach Stefan Lefors. “And on the two-point play, it was a run/pass option. Abram threw a Tebow sorta jump pass. Glad (Harrington) came up with it.”

The Win marked Parkview Baptist first victory over Madison Prep the past five meetings with the most recent three being blowouts in favor the Chargers.

“(It’s) our first win against them and in that fashion, especially to overcome a couple interceptions,” Stefors said.

Parkview Baptist was up 14-7 with just over one minute to play in the first half and primed to take a two-score lead into the break when Madison Prep’s Javen Holmes stepped in front of an intended Eagles receiver and raced 101 yards to paydirt to even the score at 14-14 going into the break.

“That interception before the half was devastating. We had three points in out back pocket and we give up the pick-six and we were able to overcome it,” Lefors Said.

The Chargers scored first on a 72 yard touchdown run by Tony Lewis, who finished with 15 rushes for 149 yards.

“We got off to a good start but we loss our best tackle.” Madison Prep head coach Landry Williams explained. “We can’t have mental errors when we get down in the redzone. it was fight and we came out at the bottom this time.”

Parkview evened the score on a six-play, 45 yard drive on a Johnston touchdown toss to C.J. DeLeon.

Madison Prep committed seven penalties for 71 yards while Parkview only committed two. The Chargers had more yards (395-216) and first downs (17-12).

Johnston tossed his second of three touchdowns to Brock Comeaux, who had six grabs for 50 yards. The five-yard score with 4:31 to play in second quarter gave the Eagles their first lead at 14-7.

Johnston finish 16-of-27 passing for 151 yards.

Madison Prep (2-2, 0-1) will look to rebound next week against Mentorship Academy. Parkview Baptist (3-1, 1-0) will take on Glen Oaks next week.
