KENNER – Making a name for themselves, Patrick Taylor is showing they are here to stay in just their second varsity season.

The undefeated Tigers wanted to keep up their dominance and gain revenge after their loss to Kenner Discovery last season.

Patrick Taylor is just that with a decisive 28-0 victory Friday over the Swamp Owls at Muss Bertolino Stadium.

“First, Kenner Discovery had a great game plan for us,” Patrick Taylor head coach Kenny Bourgeois said. “We are almost a carbon copy offense. Came out and started slow, they had a great game plan and we had to make a couple of adjustments. It was a tough game and our kids kind of grinded it out.”

On the first drive of the game, Patrick Taylor forced a punt by Kenner Discovery and blocked it. David Doell recovered the ball in the endzone for the score, the only points of the first quarter.

Jeremy Gibson doubled the Taylor lead with an explosive 55-yard touchdown to increase the score to 14-0.

“We are really trying to get touchdowns,” Gibson said. “Trying to shut them down and shut them out just like we did. It’s a team effort. Our whole team contributed especially our defense blocking a few kicks.”

The third quarter was much of the same with both defenses holding strong against run-heavy attacks. A sack on 4th down by Gavin Bonner gave the Tigers great field position. Quarterback Ethan Tran capitalized on it with the ensuing drive, rushing for an 11-yard touchdown to make it 21-0.

The fourth quarter was dominated by ball control as Patrick Taylor held onto the ball for 10 minutes and 11 seconds. Backup quarterback Bryce Boutte threw a 17-yard touchdown to Gibson to complete the scoring with 2:32 left.

“Shoutout to Ethan and the o-line, and Bryce Boutte with the blocks. Really, shoutout to everyone. It really all adds up,” Gibson noted.

Patrick Taylor plays Fisher next Friday on the Westbank. Kenner Discovery takes on Sophie B. Wright in New Orleans next Friday.
