Olympia pulls away from John Curtis in second half of Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic

WESTWEGO – It took a little while for the Olympia Titans to find their footing.

When they did, there was no stopping the Titans.

Jizzle James scored 19 points and had five rebounds as Olympia downed John Curtis Christian in the quarterfinals of the Boys National Bracket of the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic at the Alario Center Friday night.

The Patriots started hot, taking a 20-17 lead after one quarter on the strength of a trio of 3-pointers.

The Titans clamped down on Curtis the rest of the way, allowing just 25 points combined in the final three quarters.

Olympia went on a 7-0 run to take a 24-21 lead before going on a 9-0 run to lead 31-23 in the second quarter. The Titans led 36-30 at the half and never trailed again.

Olympia closed the third quarter on an 8-0 run to take a commanding 55-38 lead into the final quarter.

Kaiden White finished with 14 points for Olympia.

Michael Turner Jr. had 13 points for John Curtis (12-2), all in the first half. Autrail Manning had nine points, all in the first quarter and Mark Johnson had nine points and five rebounds.

The Titans controlled the boards by a 34-21 margin.

Olympia (12-1) advances to take on Archbishop Shaw Saturday at 2 p.m. in the semifinals.
