NSU’s Candice Parramore claims Women’s Basketball Weekly honor

Candeic Parramore NSU Lady Demons vs. UNO

FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State senior guard Candice Parramore is the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland weekly honors are presented by GEICO.

Parramore tallied back-to-back, 23-point performances to match her career high in games against Nicholls and New Orleans last week. The senior out of Dallas, Texas, went 13-15 from the free-throw line and drained five three-pointers. She also tallied five assists to match her career best in the 73-60 win over Nicholls and averaged 6.0 rebounds for the week.

The award marks the second weekly honor for Parramore this season and for her career. Northwestern State (11-13, 4-9 SLC) closes out its regular season at Southeastern Louisiana this Saturday at 1 p.m., before heading to Katy, Texas, for the first-round of the Southland Women’s Basketball Tournament on March 10. All games will be on ESPN+.

Parramore led the Northwestern State offense by matching her career high two times with a pair of 23-point games as the Lady Demons split games against intrastate rivals this week. The senior guard shot 44 percent from the field for the week and went 13-for-15 (.867) from the free throw line. She also matched a career high with five assists in the win against Nicholls and averaged 6.0 rebounds for the week.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
