Nix the notion anyone but LSU’s Daniels deserves the Heisman

We hear that Oregon quarterback Bo Nix’s odds of winning the Heisman Trophy have improved.

Nix has had a fantastic season and has the advantage (I guess) of playing another game Friday night in the Pac 12 championship against Washington.

Heading into the conference title game, Nix has completed better than 78 percent of his throws, with 37 touchdown passes and only two interceptions. He has also rushed for six touchdowns and 159 yards.

Great numbers, for sure.

So, how do they stack upf against LSU’s Jayden Daniels?

Daniels has thrown for 94 yards less than Nix, with three more touchdowns and two more interceptions. So, the passing stats for the two are quite similar.

However, Daniels does have a pass efficiency rating of 208, the highest in FBS history.

Now here’s where the side-by-side comparison tilts, enormously, to one player. That player is the LSU quarterback.

Daniels has rushed for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has also done his work against a schedule that is far superior to Oregon’s.

Real time college football RPI says LSU played the sixth toughest schedule in the country. Oregon? #95. There’s no comparison.

Daniels also did his best work against some of the nation’s best teams and best defenses.

Last week, Texas A&M brought the nation’s No. 8 ranked defense to Tiger Stadium. Daniels torched the Aggies for four touchdown passes plus 120 yards rushing on 11 carries.

In the second half, he was insanely good. In the third quarter facing a 4th-and-4, Daniels scrambled 49 yards to the Aggies 4-yard line. LSU would score to cut A&M’s lead to three.

It was a Heisman moment. The nation’s best player, racing down east sideline at Tiger Stadium (just like Billy Cannon once did) and putting his team back in the game.

Before he was knocked out of the Alabama game, Daniels threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns while running 11 times for 163 yards and a score. That’s right, 163 rushing yards on the Crimson Tide defense.

Against Missouri, Daniels threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed 15 times for 130 yards and a score Against Ole Miss, he threw for 414 yards with four touchdowns and rushed for 99 yards with another score.

Alabama is No. 8 in the latest CFP rankings. Missouri is 9th and Ole Miss is 11th.

Again, unreal work against quality competition.

This week, Daniels was named the winner of the Johnny Unitas Award, the same honor Joe Burrow won four years ago before he won the Heisman.

If Jayden Daniels doesn’t receive both this season, it is, as my sister in-law would say, a shame and a half.
