Nicholls Women’s Basketball signs two for 2021-22 class

THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University head women’s basketball coach DoBee Plaisance announced Friday the addition of two high school players, Deonna Brister and Sierra Moore, for the 2021-22 Signing Class.

Brister is a 5-foot-11 guard/forward out of Lake Arthur High School in Louisiana. Moore, a 6-foot forward, will come to Thibodaux via Cape Coral High School in Florida.

“To say I’m excited about this signing class is an understatement, “Coach Plaisance said. “From what Deonna and Sierra will be bringing to this program is not measured in just their skills and talents, but also can be measured in their quality of character. They will be great ambassadors not only to this institution but to their families and where they came from. And in terms of what we’re doing and how we’re growing, they just expedited our growth. They will be able to come in and contribute on the floor, as well as be a part of a very special family we have going on here.”

Last season, Brister averaged 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists per game as Lake Arthur posted a 28-6 overall record, capped on an appearance in the Class 2A state semifinals. She claimed LSWA All-State recognition for the second straight campaign, earning second-team honors as a junior. In her sophomore season, Brister garnered 6-2A District MVP and all-state honorable mention as Lake Arthur finished with a 29-4 record. The Tigers played in the state title game in her freshman year and ended with a 25-6 mark.

Brister, who is an honor student, also ran cross country for the Tigers, placing second in state as a sophomore and third in her freshman year.

Moore was a second-team all-area selection last year at Cape Coral after averaging 12 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block per contest. She helped lead the Seahawks to a 20-9 overall record which included a perfect 7-0 showing in district. Cape Coral wrapped up the season as a regional finalist.

“I want to show a lot of appreciation to my staff for their hard work,” Plaisance said. “The numbers might not be big, but we have a lot returning. The two signees are ginormous in terms of what I believe they’re going to be able to do – contributing and just helping this program continue its quest for NCAA Tournament bids.”

Nicholls will make its season debut on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Tulane University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
