HAMMOND, La. – Point guard Jade Brumfield will continue her athletic and academic endeavors as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana women’s basketball program beginning in the 2021-22 season, SLU head coach Ayla Guzzardo announced on Friday.

Brumfield, a 5-6 guard, will represent her hometown university. The Hammond, Louisiana native is preparing for her senior season at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

“As someone who played the position, I’m very particular in what I’m looking for in a point guard,” Guzzardo said. “Jade fits the mold. She’s quick and displays great leadership. Jade will be coachable and wants to come here and get better. We’re fortunate to be able to keep her home as part of our program.”

Brumfield was named the District 10-2A Most Valuable Player as a sophomore and was an All-State selection following her junior campaign. Last season, she posted per game averages of 21.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 4.0 steals.

Brumfield is the second local player to ink with the Lady Lions, as Doyle forward and Livingston native Presleigh Scott signed on Wednesday. According to Guzzardo, the commonalities aren’t limited to their proximity to the Southeastern campus.

“We were looking with players with a high basketball IQ and tireless work ethic and we’ve found two in our own backyard,” Guzzardo commented. “We’re excited to work with Jade and Presleigh for the next four years and to continue to progress towards a Southland Conference championship.”

This year’s Southeastern team will open the 2020-21 season on Nov. 25, hosting Alcorn State at 1 p.m. in the University Center.
