Men’s Basketball Partners with New Orleans Pelicans and Hynes Charter to Host Junior Training Camp

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Privateers men’s basketball program partnered with the New Orleans Pelicans and Edward Hynes Charter School – University of New Orleans to host the Pelicans Junior Training Camp Friday morning at Lakefront Arena. The camp served as a reward for Hynes-UNO students who received at least a 90% GPA during the fall semester. Over 50 students learned fundamental basketball skills in stations facilitated by the New Orleans men’s basketball team.

“We were excited to offer our assistance and it’s a great opportunity to partner with our neighbors in the Pelicans and our on-campus neighbors in Hynes-UNO,” said Head Coach Mark Slessinger.

While the camp has an extensive history of visiting schools, camps, and youth centers to help fight childhood obesity by teaching healthy lifestyle habits to children across the Gulf Coast, this is the first time New Orleans Athletics has been involved.

“I love working with kids, so this was a great opportunity to have fun, interact, and give back,” said senior guard Daniel Sackey.

The Privateers will return to their home court on Monday, Dec. 19 to host Dillard in their final non-conference home contest. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT. Fans can purchase tickets by visiting www.unoprivateers.com/tickets.
