Brook Melnychuk

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech Pitcher Brook Melnychuk has been named the Blenders Eyeware Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Melnychuk is 2-0 and has yet to allow an earned run this season in 11.2 innings pitched. The redshirt junior has struck out nine while yielding just four hits and two walks. In addition to holding a 0.00 ERA, she owns a .51 WHIP and is limiting opposing batters to a .100 batting average.

In the season opener against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Feb. 12) Melnychuk threw five no-hit innings while striking out four and not allowing a walk on her way to her first victory of the season. In her second start of the season, Melnychuk earned her second victory in a 5-2 win at ULM (Feb. 16) by striking out a career-high five batters and allowing just three hits and two walks in five innings pitched. Melnychuk’s first relief appearance was just as impressive as she escaped a one-out bases loaded jam in a 10-4 win at ULM (Feb. 17).

The Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, Canada, product currently leads CUSA in ERA (0.00) and opposing batting average (.100). She has also allowed the least amount of hits and runs of any CUSA pitcher this season with four and two respectively. In addition to leading the league in numerous statistical categories, she ranks among the league’s best in wins (2, 8th), walks issued (T-1, 2) and doubles allowed (T-1, 1).

Melnychuk’s selection marks the 27th time that Louisiana Tech has had a representative earn Conference Pitcher of the Week honors and 13th as a member of Conference USA.

The Bulldogs will look to improve to 7-0 when they travel to Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. in-state showdown. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
