Delgado defeated Bryant & Stratton 16-6 in five innings Monday to close out the annual “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Casey Artigues reached as a hit batter in the first inning, advanced on an infield error and scored on a groundout by Jack Walker for the first Delgado run. Bryant & Stratton batted around in the second for a five run inning, four of the runs coming off of a grand slam by Freudy Ledesma.

The Dolphins answered with a six run second inning, sending eleven to the plate, capitalizing on four walks, two singles, a wild pitch, and two errors. Nine more runs came in the third, including a bases loaded walk by Jack Walker, a two run single by Rhett Centanni, and an RBI single by Hayden Kibbe. The Bobcats plated a run on a fielder’s choice to narrow the Delgado lead to 10 and left bases loaded before the five inning mercy rule took effect for Delgado’s 16-6 win.

Delgado reliever Bryce Pitts picked up his first win of the season on the mound in relief of starter Jaxson Burch, who went 1.1. Connor Matherne closed the game in the fifth inning.

With the win, the Dolphins close their annual “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial 4-2 and improve to 5-3 overall. Delgado will travel to Wesson, Mississippi Friday for a doubleheader at Copiah-Lincoln before hosting Southwest Mississippi in a noon doubleheader Saturday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
