Mandeville downs Zachary to advance to Sugar Bowl final

Mandeville continued its excellent run in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Girls Gold Bracket.

The Skippers used a fast start and a good third quarter to handle Zachary 64-48 in the semifinals Friday afternoon at the Alario Center.

Mandeville jumped out to a 25-9 lead after one quarter and led 36-29 at halftime. The Skippers extended the lead to 55-36 after three quarters.

Alanna Benoit pumped in 21 points while Hannah Benoit had 21 points for the Skippers. Saleigh Berry finished with 11 points.

Ava Raymond led Zachary with 16 points, Cimiya Rideaux had 13 points while Tiarra McPipe had 10 points for the Broncos.

Mandeville (16-5) has won eight of nine games. The Skippers advance to the championship game Saturday at 2 p.m. against defending champion Amite, who defeated St. Thomas More 52-25.
