Magic Man’s Opening Day Picks for the Fair Grounds

It has been a while since I have done any picking of races but I am back to resume my role as the CCS resident expert and your daily source of handicapping expertise on the Fair Grounds Racing Season which gets underway on Thursday.

Over the next 80 days of racing, there will be 60 Stakes races run. Of course we have our annual rite of December, better known as Louisiana Champions Day. The highlight of any Fair Grounds racing season is the Louisiana Derby for 3 year old colts along with a plethora of supporting stakes including the Fair Grounds Oaks and New Orleans Handicap amongst the buffet of big races on that day.

Before I get going, I want to share a personal story. I have not been doing my due diligence for my loyal readers because I am dealing with a personal issue involving my wife, and that has really accounted for my energy. Also to note I have not been completing the last two seasons here at the Fair Grounds but I give my word that I will in the words of Sean Payton… Do Your Job!

Opening day is upon us and there are nine races to kick off this season. The feature race is the Tom Benson Memorial Handicap named in honor of the late great owner of the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans. So let us get going. Below are my selections for Opening Day.
