Kim Mulkey

LSU coach Kim Mulkey, targeting her offseason needs, appears to have hit a bullseye with three new transfer guards for the 2024-25 squad: Kailyn Gilbert, Shayeann Day-Wilson and Mjracle Sheppard.

Gilbert is a 5’8″ guard with two seasons of eligibility remaining. She averaged 15.1 points, 2.3 assists, and 5.3 rebounds this past season for the University of Arizona, connecting on 41.9% of her attempts from the floor and 40% from behind the arc.

The Tampa Bay, Florida product missed a few contests in February for an undisclosed reason. Upon her return, her playing time shrunk to 13 minutes per game in late February, down from her previous average of over 30 minutes per outing.

Day-Wilson, a native of Toronto, Ontario, played last season at Miami after spending the previous two years at Duke. The 5’5″ guard averaged 11.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists last season, connecting on 41.4% of her attempts.

The former ACC Freshman of the Year while at Duke has played in 93 games over three seasons with 71 starts. Day-Wilson was also recognized as the best guard in Canada in the class of 2021. During the past campaign, she recorded 9 assists in a game against Jacksonville and 8 against NJIT.

Sheppard, a 5’10” sophomore, played her freshman campaign at Mississippi State. The Kent, Washington product was ranked as the 87th overall player in the 2023 class and was a 4-star prospect, ranking as the second-best player in the state of Washington. She averaged 5.1 points, 2.1 assists, and recorded 48 steals. Sheppard played a significant role in Montverde’s 2021-22 National Prep title, averaging 16 points and 6 rebounds.

This new trio will join a team with a robust roster of guards, including Flau’jae Johnson, Milaylah Williams, Last Tear-Poa, Izzy Besselman and Aneesah Morrow, along with another incoming transfer 6’5″ guard/forward Jersey Wolfenbarger.

It also appears that Mulkey is not finished with her roster additions via the transfer portal for the upcoming season.
