LSU-Alabama thriller produces big ratings for ESPN

Saturday’s instant classic between LSU and Alabama at Tiger Stadium was the most viewed college football regular season game on ESPN in six years.

According to a release by the network on Tuesday, the Tigers’ 32-31 victory in overtime was viewed by an average of 7.6 million viewers, peaking with 10.4 million viewers.

It was the most-watched regular season college football game on ESPN since the Ole Miss-Florida State game in 2016, which was played on Labor Day night, and the most viewed Saturday game since Ole Miss-Alabama in 2015.

All-time, the game ranks sixth among Saturday games on ESPN, the network release said.

In New Orleans, the game generated a 24.7 rating, second highest in the country behind only Birmingham.
