Loyola men’s basketball head coach Stacy Hollowell has guided the Wolf Pack to a No. 2 national ranking and a 12-0 record so far this season

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack men’s basketball team is off to a hot start this season, and after going 2-0 last week head coach Stacy Hollowell was named Hoopdirt.com NAIA Coach of the Week Monday. The No. 2 Wolf Pack earned wins over Dillard and William Carey last week, pushing their record to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.

With Monday’s award, Hollowell is now eligible to receive the HoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award, which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2021-22 college basketball season.

Not only was last week a 2-0 week for Loyola, but it was also a historic one for the program. The win over Dillard passed the program’s best start in school history, then the Wolf Pack extended the winning streak to 12 games a couple of days later.

The Wolf Pack has some impressive wins already under their belt, too, defeating ranked opponents LSU Shreveport (No. 6) and Science and Arts (No. 12), as well as claiming the Gulf Bracket title in the Battle at the Beach tournament last month. Loyola is set to play LSUS again this week, hitting the road for a 7:30 p.m. matchup on Thursday. Following that contest, the Wolf Pack will play two more exhibitions against NCAA Division I foes Southern Miss (Dec. 11) and Louisiana (Dec. 20) to finish the 2021 portion of the schedule. Loyola has already beaten one NCAA D1 opponent, taking down New Orleans in November.

The team has already collected three weekly honors so far this season, as Brandon Davis, Myles Burns and Zach Wrightsil have all picked up SSAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week awards.
