J.T. Curtis

It is an elite list, reserved for the most accomplished coaches in Louisiana prep football history. Only 57 coaches have achieved the magical 200-win mark in their brilliant careers.

The list becomes even more elite when you look at those who have won 300 games with just nine coaches having achieved that mark.

Then, there is the achievement hardest to reach of 400 victories.

In Louisiana prep history, only two coaches have done so, and that Mount Rushmore of Louisiana coaches is about to make an addition.

Lewis Cook of Notre Dame needs eight victories in 2023 to join J.T. Curtis of John Curtis Christian and Jim Hightower of St. Thomas More with 400 wins.

While the schedule is a real challenge early on for the Pios, the likelihood of Cook reaching the milestone is very high, considering the fact that Notre Dame won 10 games last season and has won eight or more games each season since the turn of the century.

As for Hightower, he is still going strong as he achieves a milestone in his tremendous career, entering his 50th year as a head coach. Last season, Hightower guided St. Thomas More to a fourth state championship in seven seasons.

Then, there is the amazing story of J.T. Curtis of John Curtis Christian.

Entering his 55th year on the job at the only program he has ever coached, at the school which bears his family name, Curtis needs just seven wins to become the all-time winningest coach in United States prep football history.

Curtis sits at 615 wins entering the 2023 season. No other Louisiana coach has gotten to 500 wins.

John McKissick of Summerville High (South Carolina) won 621 games in his 63-year career.

Having led his Patriots to a 27th official state championship, Curtis has a superb team retuning in 2023 and appears certain to reach the win total to become the best ever in the country.

Another story to watch is legendary Archbishop Shaw coach Hank Tierney.

Returning to the program he made famous from 1983-2001, Tierney guided the Eagles to the Select Division II quarterfinals in 2022 and has an excellent team this season.

With nine wins this year, Tierney would surpass three coaches, including former Catholic High (Baton Rouge) head coach Dale Weiner for sixth all-time in Louisiana history for victories.

Steven Fitzhugh of Ouachita Christian continues his outstanding career as well.

Fitzhugh is entering his 25th season with the Eagles, having led OCS to six state titles in his illustrious tenure, including winning the Select Division IV championship in 2022.

Fitzhugh needs just 10 wins to reach the 250-win mark as he continues to rise in the ranks of the winningest coaches ever.

Here is the all-time wins list for Louisiana prep football coaches with 200 or more victories in their illustrious careers:
