West St. John and Crescent City Christian advanced to the regional round of the LHSAA state playoffs Wednesday with wins while Central Catholic and Covenant Christian split a pair of games to force a third and deciding game.

In Class 1A, the 15th-seeded Rams (9-14) edged Ringgold 8-7 at Edgard. West St. John advances to travel to second seed Grand Lake in the regional round.

In Division V, eighth-seeded Crescent City Christian shutout ninth seed St. Joseph’s of Plaucheville 8-0 at Mike Miley Stadium in Metairie.

Louis Rosiere, III pitched a complete game three-hitter and struck out 15 in a masterful performance. Rosiere, III also had a pair of hits. Ben Dietz drove in a pair of runs and Cadon Creepel also had an RBI for the Pioneers (4-10). Ross Schexnayder took the loss for the Eagles (2-12).

Crescent City Christian advances to the quarterfinals, traveling to second seed Grace Christian.

In Division IV, it was a draw as familiar opponents in eighth seed Central Catholic and ninth seed Covenant Christian hooked up at Amelia Recreation Center in the best-of-three regional round.

The Eagles (20-11) took game one 2-0, breaking a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on RBI singles by Brooks Thomas and Thomas Mire.

The Lions (21-14) rallied in game two to win 5-1. Cameron Olivier broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the fifth inning and Covenant Christian scored three runs in the sixth to put it away, including a two-run triple by Caleb Wilson. Trenton Holloway pitched a four-hitter, striking out six for the victory.

The third and deciding game is today at 6 p.m. at Amelia Recreation Center as the two teams meet for the fourth time this year. Covenant Christian defeated Central Catholic 7-5 back on March 3.

Today, several select schools open their playoff runs.

A pair of familiar opponents square off at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium at 3:30 p.m. at seventh-seed Archbishop Rummel (17-16) hosts Catholic League rival St. Augustine (18-16) in the regional round of Division I in a best-of-three series. The Raiders and Purple Knights split a pair of District 9-5A games with St. Aug winning 4-3 on April 17 at RBI Field before Rummel got even with an 8-1 victory last Thursday at Kirsch-Rooney.

Also in Division I, fourth-seeded Brother Martin (16-14) hosts 13th seed McKinley (6-24) in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at RBI Field/Wesley Barrow Stadium in another best-of-three series. The Crusaders have won three straight games while the Panthers have lost 12 of their last 13 games.

In Division II, it will be a tall task for 15th seed Ben Franklin (8-19) as the Falcons play at second seed Parkview Baptist (27-3) in a doubleheader in a best-of-three series. The Eagles have won 13 straight games while the Falcons have lost six of their last seven games.
