FRISCO, Texas – McNeese’s Simon Larranaga was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week as announced by the league Monday afternoon, the second Cowboy to garner recognition this season.

“Simon has been putting in the work all year and he delivered in a big way for our team this past week,” said head coach Justin Hill.

The junior helped the Cowboys post a 3-1 record over the prior four games against Power Five opponent Houston and SLC foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He batted .647, earning 11 hits in 17 at-bats while walking twice in the process, Larranaga scored seven runs while bringing in six to help the Pokes. Two of the hits came as home runs with one as a double.

Larranaga posted his best outing on Sunday in a 13-10 extra-inning victory over the Islanders, hitting 4-for-6, scoring four of his runs and driving in four as well. In each game he played, the designated hitter earned multiple hits.

The native of Mont Belvieu, Texas played hero in the series finale against the Islanders with a three-run home run in the top of the 10th for the Cowboys to ultimately seal the victory.

Over the course of the season, Larranaga has batted .326 in 26 games, starting 25 of those. He’s driven in a total 15 RBIs while producing 29 hits, 10 of which for extra bases.
