Lakeshore completes sweep of Assumption to advance to semifinals

It has been a great ride for Lakeshore and the ride continues.

Lakeshore is back in the semifinals for the second time in four years after edging No. 3 Assumption 3-2 Saturday afternoon to sweep the series two games to none.

The sixth-seeded Titans scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning before the Mustangs cut the deficit to 2-1 with a run in the top of the second. Lakeshore made it 3-1 with a run in the fourth before Assumption scored a run in the top of the sixth inning.

Morgan Sauber went the distance to pick up the win, allowing two runs on seven hits. Sauber walked no one and struck out one.

Preston Scott had a hit and an RBI while Mikey Wisner had a pinch-hit single and an RBI in the fourth inning which proved to be the game-winning hit for Lakeshore as the Titans had just three hits.

Cole Simoneaux pitched well but took the loss for Assumption, allowing just one earned run on three hits. Simoneaux walked three and struck out two. Simoneaux had two hits, including a double while Andon Dupre had two hits and an RBI ahd Holden Thibodeaux had a hit and an RBI for the Mustangs.

Lakeshore (25-9) advances to the semifinals in Sulphur Thursday at 2 p.m. against No. 15 South Terrebonne. The Gators upset No. 7 South Lafourche, sweeping both games of that series.
