LA Tech’s Anthony sweeps C-USA, state player of week awards

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech guard Kierra Anthony took home more hardware on Monday, earning the Conference USA and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association State Player of the Week awards.

The New Iberia, La., native averaged 30.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 55 percent (21-38) from the field and 100 percent (17-17) from the free throw line in the Lady Techsters wins over Ole Miss and Southeastern Louisiana.

Anthony started the week by scoring 25 points and grabbing four rebounds in Tech’s 72-53 win over Southeastern Louisiana. She hit 10-of-16 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws while adding three assists and one steal in only 25 minutes of action.

The senior followed that up with a 35-point, 7-rebound effort in an 80-71 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday. She scored 29 of her 35 points in the second and third quarters when the Lady Techsters outscored the Rebels 49-33. Anthony hit 11-of-22 field goals and 13-of-13 free throws in the win.

This marks the second C-USA POW award of the year and the second LSWA POW of the year for Anthony. She garnered 14 of the 17 votes in the voting of state LSWA members while Nicholls State’s Cassidy Barrios took home the other three votes.
