RUSTON, La. – For the seventh straight season, Louisiana Tech claimed a Conference USA Football specialty award as graduate quarterback Luke Anthony was named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Anthony started in eight of Tech’s nine games this season before suffering a season-ending injury at TCU on Dec. 12. He ranks fourth in C-USA in passing efficiency (138.0), sixth in passing average per game (164.3) and ninth in total offense (157.9). The native of Dallas, Texas, completed 138-of-221 passes for 1,479 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Anthony became the third Bulldog quarterback in program history to throw at least 10 touchdown passes through the first three games of the season. He threw a season-high 314 yards and five touchdowns and had one rushing touchdown against Houston Baptist on Oct. 2. He became the fifth player in program history to account for at least six touchdowns in a single game and was the first since Cody Sokol against WKU in 2014. It was only the third time in program history that a LA Tech quarterback passed for five touchdowns and rushed for a touchdown in a single game.

Anthony collected numerous weekly awards over the course of the season, including C-USA Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 28), a two-time Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week honorable mention (Sept. 22 and 29), a Manning Award Star of the Week (Sept. 21), Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award’s Great 8 (Sept. 28) and was named LWSA Co-Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 28). After being earning a spot on the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award’s Great 8, Anthony was also named to the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Midseason Watch List

All C-USA postseason football awards are chosen by a vote from the league’s head football coaches.
