Former St. Augustine guard DeVante’ Jones named Sun Belt Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt announced its men’s basketball player of the week on Tuesday.

Jones averaged a blistering 31 points per game during a three-game week. He shot 62% from the field including 43% from behind the arc and 89% from the free throw line. Jones reached the 1,000 career point mark during his 33-point explosion against Delaware State.

The junior guard shot 12 for 13 from the foul line in their 99-73 win over the Hornets. His 33 points were a career-high which he broke one night later vs. Alice Lloyd when he poured in 35 in a 86-63 win. Jones averaged 5.7 rebounds, three assists and almost five steals per game for the week. On the season, Jones is averaging 23.4 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per outing.

This season, the 12 SBC schools will be split into a West Division and an East Division and will play divisional opponents during the regular season to minimize travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The first conference games are set for New Year’s Day 2021. All 12 schools will compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championship which will be held March 5-8, 2021 in Pensacola, FL.
