John Ehret gains revenge with decisive win over BTW (Ken Trahan)

The memory lingered. In 2022, Booker T. Washington outscored John Ehret 48-42 in a wild contest.

This time around, it was no contest.

Darnell O’Quinn passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third score and Florida commit Wardell Mack caught a pair of touchdown passes Thursday night as the Patriots hammered the Lions 42-0 at Hoss Memtsas Stadium.

Eric Cheneau also threw a touchdown pass for Ehret. Anaj Payton caught a touchdown pass while Chad Jackson and Damien Smith each added a rushing touchdown.

The Patriots took control from the start and scored on every possession in the first half to put the game away early. The two sides agreed to running time in the second half.

John Ehret coach Reggie Rogers liked what he saw.

“I thought we were ready to play,” Rogers said. “It was a quick turn-around. We moved O’Quinn to quarterback and he gave us a different kind of energy and that was big for us. Mack was excellent playing both ways for us. We moved some people around to see how it all fit and it seemed like it all fit together. We will use both guys at quarterback moving forward. Our defense gave up 34 to Chalmette and 24 to Destrehan so to hold Booker T. scoreless was huge. They do a lot of good things on offense. I was very pleased.”

The Patriots (1-2) return to action next Friday at Bogalusa while the Lions (0-3) face an even tougher task against an elite Warren Easton team next Thursday night.

The Lumberjacks traveled to Hoss Memtsas Stadium and defeated Ehret 26-12 last season.

“We have to travel to Bogalusa, get there early and get our feet under us,” Rogers said. “I’m looking forward to it. Last year, they kind of took it to us. It is always a playoff atmosphere on the road. I think we are ready for it. We will be ready for it. Coach Cyril Crutchfield will have his team ready and playing hard and we have to match their intensity.”
