If anyone is finally going to knock the John Curtis Christian girls basketball program off its perch as the best team in Division I, this year may be the last chance to do so for quite awhile.

The Lady Patriots are young.

Curtis boasts a program wth five straight Division I state championships and eight state titles overall. They may be precocious but the Lady Patriots are already very good.

The result is earning the top seed in the LHSAA Division I state playoffs beginning this week.

Curtis (18-5) is the top seed and will play No. 8 Byrd in the quarterfinals Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in River Ridge.

Dominican (25-4), which split a pair of District 9-5A games with John Curtis this season, is the second seed and will host No. 7 St. Joseph’s Academy in the round of eight.

McKinley (17-9) is seeded third and will play host to No. 6 Archbishop Chapelle (17-10) Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

No. 4 Mount Carmel Academy (18-11) will entertain No. 5 Scotlandville Thursday at 5 p.m.

Defending state champion St. Louis Catholic (25-3) is the No. 1 seed in Division II and the Saints get No. 16 Archbishop Hannan (5-21) Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Vandebilt Catholic (22-3) earned the second seed and the Lady Terriers battle No. 15 Teurlings Catholic Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Houma.

St. Thomas More (22-7) is the third seed and will play host to No. 14 Academy of The Sacred Heart (7-9) of New Orleans Wednesday at 7 p.m.

No. 4 Ben Franklin (21-11) will host No. 13 Academy of Our Lady (6-10) Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Fifth-seeded Ursuline Academy ( awaits No. 12 Loyola Prep Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

No. 10 Haynes Academy (11-11) travels to Bayou country to take on No. 7 E.D. White Catholic Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Thibodaux.

No. 8 De La Salle (19-11) hosts No. 9 St. Scholastica (20-7) Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

In Division III, defending champion Lafayette Christian (22-7) is the top seed and gets a bye.

No. 2 Episcopal (19-6) hosts No. 15 St. Katharine Drexel (2-6) Wednesday at 5 p.m.

No. 3 Newman (21-3) is home to No. 14 Northlake Christian (5-17) Tuesday at 6 p.m.

No. 5 St. Thomas Aquinas (14-10) faces a familiar opponent in District 10-2A rival and No. 12 seed Pope John Paul II (11-15) Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Falcons won easily, defeating the Jaguars 59-33 on Feb. 4.

No. 6 St. Charles Catholic (18-11) will entertain No. 11 Catholic of New Iberia.

In a battle of local teams, No. 8 St. Mary’s Academy (10-10) is home against No. 9 McGehee (9-12) Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

In Division IV, defending state champion Ouachita Christian (29-2) is the top seed and will play No. 16 St. Edmund Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Cedar Creek (25-2) is the second seed and will host No. 15 Hamilton Christian Wednesday at 6 p.m.

No. 6 St. Martin’s Episcopal (19-5) plays host to No. 11 Hanson Memorial Wednesday at 6 p.m.

No. 12 Country Day (9-7) travels to No. 5 Southern Lab Wednesday at 6 p.m.

In Division V, Family Christian (27-10) will meet No. 8 Christ Episcopal (3-16) in the quarterfinals while No. 2 Claiborne Christian (19-9) gets No. 7 Grace Christian Friday at 5:30 p.m.

No. 6 First Baptist Christian (5-11) travels to No. 3 Family Community.
