Jesuit, Teurlings Catholic, Archbishop Shaw set to defend state wrestling titles

LHSAA wrestling Bossier

Defending state champions Jesuit, Teurlings Catholic and Archbishop Shaw are set to defend their titles at the LHSAA state wrestling championships Friday and Saturday at Brookshier Grocery Arena in Bossier City.

The Blue Jays are the favorite to repeat in Division I.

Jesuit has won 24 state titles, second most in Louisiana history and the Blue Jays are ready to make a run at No. 25.

The Blue Jays have Michael Barnett (106), defending state champion Bodi Harris (120), Jackson Calderaro (215) and defending state champion Spencer Lanosga (285). Jesuit has the most depth, with top eight seeds in 13 of the 14 weight classes.

Brother Martin, with 21 state titles, has a trio of top seeds in Hunter Chaubert (132), defending state champion Richie Clementi (138) and Rory Horvath (165).

Holy Cross, the all-time leader with 28 state titles, will again challenge for the title, led by top seed and defending state champion Nick DiGerolamo (157). The Tigers have 12 seeded wrestlers.

Conlan Enk (150) of St. Paul’s is a top seed. The Wolves are a contender with 11 seeded wrestlers.

Dutchtown has a pair of top seeds, including Cole Gros (144) and William Mathis (175). The Griffins have six seeds.

Kael Reaux (113) of Southside, Christian Worley (126) of Catholic of Baton Rouge and Jacobi Clement (190) of East Ascension are the other top seeds. The Spartans are the other contender with 11 wrestlers seeded. The Bears have six seeds.

In Division II, Teurlings Catholic has five top seeds, including defending state champion Alex Rozas (120), Brennan Boyer (132), Brandt Babineaux (157), defending state champion Braeden Simoneaux (165), Kendra James (215). The Rebels have top eight seeds in 12 of the 14 weight classifications.

North DeSoto is poised to make a serious run at the title with four top seeds in Jacob Kershaw (113), defending state champion Dalton Compton (144), defending state champion Lake Bates (175) and Cauden Burns (285). The Griffins have 13 seeded wrestlers.

Other top challengers include Sam Houston and Archbishop Rummel. Sam Houston has a top seed in Caleb Lavine (138) and has eight seeds. The Raiders do not have a top seed but have four second seeds and 13 of 14 wrestlers seeded.

The remaining top seeds include Bryce Latino of Lakeshore (106), Tristen Kimball of Terrebonne (150), and Taylor Mahoney (190) of Riverdale.

Division III will be closely contested with several contenders.

Defending state champion Archbishop Shaw has two top seeds with  Jayden Jamison (113) and Mason Wilson (175) and the Eagles are deep, with 11 seeded wrestlers.

De La Salle has three top seeds, including defending state champion Dylan Duvernay (120), Malachi Benetrix (150) and Austin Young (285). The Cavaliers have six seeded wrestlers.

St. Louis Catholic has a pair of top seeds in Grant Habetz (132) and Graham Montet (190). The Saints have six top eight seeds.

John Curtis Christian two top seeds, including Jerome Bridges (165) and Brandon Dang (215). The Patriots have a real shot, with 12 seeded wrestlers.

Evangel Christian also has a pair of top seeds, including Joseph Gilreath (138) and defending state champion Michael Gilreath (157). The Eagles have nine seeds.

Other top seeds are Logan Bergeron of Basile (106), Colin Dalton of Archbishop Hannan (126) and Bryce Fontenot (144) of South Beauregard. Basile is a contender with 10 seeded wrestlers.
