The wake-up call came slightly later than expected Saturday but it cdid indeed come for Jesuit.

The second-seeded Blue Jays fell behind early before rallying to whip No. 15 Carencro 11-3 to sweep their Select Division I regional round series in two games. Jesuit shut out the Bears 5-0 Friday.

Carencro scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. Jesuit got one back in the top of the second to make it 3-1. The Blue Jays would turn it on offensively, scoring in each of the final four innings.

Jesuit took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Blue Jays added a run in the fifth to make it 5-3 and added two in the sixth and it was 7-3. Jesuit finished it off with four runs in the seventh inning.

The Blue Jays banged out 10 hits with Gates Barre leading the charge, going 3 for 3 with three doubles and five RBI.

Everett Denny had two hits and two RBI and Luke Werling had a hit and two RBI and Tulane commit William Good had two hits, including a triple and scored a run.

Good pitched an outstanding game, going the distance, allowing just one earned run on five hits. Good walked three and struck out nine.

“We had a rough first inning with two unearned runs but Good settled in,” Jesuit coach Kenny Goodlett said. “We played pretty well after that. It was a big day for Gates, with clutch hits with runners in scoring position. Overall, it was a nice series for us with good pitching, defense and timely hits. That will have to continue to be the case moving forward if we want to advance.”

Jesuit (27-7) advances to host Byrd next weekend in a best-of-three quarterfinal series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. You can watch the entire series live on CrescentCitySports.com.

“This is three post-seasons in a row we’ve faced Byrd,” Goodlett said. “Knowing Byrd, we know they are a good team that is well coached. We are expecting a heck of a series next weekend.”
