Scoring runs at John Ryan Stadium against Jesuit pitching is always a challenge.

Beating the Blue Jays at John Ryan Stadium is always a challenge, especially when Jesuit pitching is fulfilling its potential.

That was the case Friday evening as the second-seeded Blue Jays blanked No. 15 Carencro 5-0 in the opening game of the Select Division I best-of-three series.

Bryce Pitts started and pitched six shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Pitts walked four and struck out six. Gates Barre finished it up with a scoreless seventh inning.

Jesuit scored three runs in the bottom of the second and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Patrick Berrigan had two hits, including an RBI single and Gates Barre added an RBI single. Alex Jeansonne had two hits, including a double. Freshman Michael Brothers had a hit and a run scored.

Game two is set for 1 p.m. Saturday with game three, if necessary, to follow.
